What is this blog about?

Oh.  That.  Uh…the meaning of life?  The secret of the universe?  How to create a perfect marriage?  Where Einstein made his fatal mistake?

I don’t know, exactly…it’s about lots of things, in no particular order.  Everything.  Anything.  Books I’m reading, people I meet, letters I get, newspapers and other journals, even some facts about my personal life that my wife occasionally gets steamed about because she says they were private and not for sharing, although I’ve tried to edit those more closely (my head still aches from where she reasoned with me the last time)…just whatever I feel like sharing depending upon my blood alcohol level at the time.

Some will be about our life in Costa Rica.  These will make more sense to you if you read some of that background section first.

A lot will be about politics, but don’t let that put you off the first thing straight off the mark.  I am a Will Rogers politician…these clowns are actually FUNNY once you get your spectacles adjusted right.  When I first became interested in politics, as a young man, I took them seriously.  I got so mad that I left the field forever.  Then when forever finally arrived, on schedule, I looked at things differently…sure, they can make you mad if you take them seriously, but if Will Rogers could look at them and see the humor, why can’t I?  Or, hopefully, we.  The important rule, difficult as it can be to follow, is to never get mad and take any of these clowns too seriously, no matter which party’s sandbox they play in.

You can read about who I am politically, and why, in that section.  At least to the extent that I know, myself, and am able to tell you.  I just took a test supposed to determine my political philosophy, which I would have thought was moderately conservative and tending towards Republican if not Genghis Khan, only it said I was a dead-center Libertarian.  Who really knows?  I am still trying to figure out who I want to be when I grow up.  I’d like to be able to explain it to my son except he speaks only Spanish and I do not.

Sometimes you will just get snippets of my expurgated biography…I’d tell you “all” but my big old fat wife draws the line.   And if you get that reference, you belong here, because that radio show was a looooong time ago.  The line was stock, traditional, and never failed to draw a laugh.  Since it was radio, nobody ever knew if his wife was big, fat, ugly or old, but that wasn’t really the point.  And if my wife is reading this, I was making a poetic allusion, dear…

Other things that interest me are the Tarot and the I Ching, sun-sign astrology, Nostradamus, global warming, theology, geology, history, astronomy, evolution…I don’t know where the end to this list might be.

I’m just blogging because it is fun for me to do, but yes, I think that even while having fun some things can be important, only the true goal of life is enjoying it as best we can.  The planet was here before we came along and will still be there afterwards, get used to it.

I do not expect anyone to like everything about blogito…how conceited would that be?  Some of you will like some things and hate others, some will hate some things and like others.  If all of you hate everything then I have a problem.  If all of you like everything then I have to wonder what alternate universe I have stumbled into…  Even my mother was far more critical than that.

I have certain people in mind when I write things, at least much of the time.  Blogito has evolved from what was first a family letter, attempting to keep in touch with people who lived too far away to visit regularly.  Well, that obviously included some close friends, especially after we moved to Costa Rica, so they were added.  A couple of their friends heard about it and asked to be included.  Most of the time when I write I am aware of these original people in my audience, some listening and some dozing, some applauding and some gagging, and there are the occasional private jokes and zingers that I toss in just for a few of them.  Don’t feel left out if that happens, you probably wouldn’t be interested, anyhow.  If you are, ask me, I’ll probably tell you.

Oh, yes…I’ve attempted to color-code sections of my blog in order to differentiate things other people said (in blue) from my comments and thoughts (in black).  Items concerning my daily life in Costa Rica and family things are in magenta.

Sometimes they overlap.  Life is not perfect.
